Hypernature

The 2023 edition of Electropark, themed "Hypernature", explored the relationship between nature and technology through hybrid performances, sound installations, and open-air dj sets.

Electropark 2023 explored its multidisciplinary identity through the theme Hypernature, conceived as both a way of thinking and a way of working. Inspired in part by the ideas of Donna Haraway and ecofeminism, the programme reflected on the emancipation of non-conforming, female and queer identities beyond fixed biological and artistic categories.

Hypernature evoked a collective ecofeminist reclaiming of technology and the environment, imagining a posthuman, cyborg community in harmony with nature. Within contemporary electronic music and experimental performance, this vision fostered an early and radical dialogue between environment, technology and human beings, encouraging new connections across artistic disciplines.

Artists

The line-up included James Holden, Anthony Rother, Mary Lattimore, Valentina Magaletti, Ninos Du Brasil, Nziria, Authentically Plastic, Sara Berts, No Plexus, and Toy Tonics with Barbara Boeing & Kapote.

Places

In July, the festival brought electronic music, DJ sets, and performances to various locations across Genoa and the Tigullio region, including the Galata Museo del Mare, the Mercato dei Pescatori della Darsena, Virgo Club, Bonfim Club, and — as the major new addition of this edition — Groove Island in San Michele di Pagana, on the Tigullio Gulf.

Groove Island

Groove Island was conceived as a floating dancefloor set in the middle of the Tigullio Gulf: a temporary platform surrounded by small boats, with the sea and the sun as a natural backdrop and seven hours of DJ sets leading up to sunset.

Designed to engage a younger audience, the project drew inspiration from the Netflix film The Incredible Story of the Isle of Roses and became one of Electropark’s main highlights of the 2023 edition.

Evergreen Podcast

Evergreen podcast started in 2022 to explore intersectional and ecological activism in Genoa. Through different contexts and environments — including Electropark, a Global Strike for Future, and local spaces of social and political gathering for feminist and LGBTQIA+ communities. Evergreen was created and hosted by Claudia Calabresi. The podcast aired on Cashmere Radio, a not-for-profit experimental community radio station based in Wedding.
