HHY & THE KAMPALA UNIT

HHY & The Kampala Unit is a project founded by Jonathan Uliel Saldanha together with trumpet player Florence Nandawula, bringing together musicians and performers connected to the Nyege Nyege scene.

The group’s work explores shifts in rhythmic intensity and sonic depth, intertwining dub, techno, funk, percussion, and brass in compositions that combine musical research with a performative dimension.

In performance, the project takes shape through variable configurations, involving collaborators such as percussionist Sekelembele (Fulu Muziki) and performer Exoce, developing practices that move across music, body, and stage space.

Following their debut album Lithium Blast (2020), released by Nyege Nyege Tapes, the project continued with Turbo Meltdown (2025), consolidating a research that brings together layered sound structures, rhythmic tension, and the construction of immersive environments.
