Dean Bowen

Dean Bowen is a poet, writer, performer, program maker, and critic. His work focuses on the dynamics of composite identities and how they relate to the political and social position of the individual.

His debut collection Bokman (2018), published in Italian in 2021, was nominated for the C. Buddingh Award for best debut collection. In 2026, he published Masc:r, a collection that reflects on masculinity through a constellation of voices.

He received the Van Dale Spoken Award (2015) and the Johnny van Doorn Award (2025), and he teaches poetry and performance literature at ArtEZ University of the Arts.

The InBetween

At Electropark 2026, he presents The InBetween, a lecture performance that uses language, voice, and writing to explore the concept of “inbetween”, which the artist defines as a space where identity is not fixed, but exists as a dynamic flow of voices, forms, and relationships with the world.

Through voice — both recorded and live — and writing, the performance unfolds as a ritual that questions established narratives and opens up new possibilities for rethinking identity.
