“Jack Smith: Real Artists Don’t Have Teeth” is an immersive performance created by electronic musician Francesco Bacci (Lowtopic), director and actor Marco Pasquinucci (Officine Papage), and visual artist Nicola Villa (Visual Substance), in collaboration with Spanish artist Dora García, the author of the eponymous text text from which the project starts. This new Italian production, which blends music, theater, visuals, and cinema, evokes the figure and legacy of Jack Smith, the cult figure of the New York avant-garde, with particular focus on his legendary stay in Genoa during the 1980s.

Francesco Bacci is an electronic musician and producer active under the name Lowtopic, following a long career with the band Ex-Otago. Marco Pasquinucci is a director and actor, founder of Officine Papage, with extensive experience in education and socially engaged theatre. Nicola Villa is a visual artist whose practice spans painting, printmaking, and digital media.

At Electropark 2025, “Jack Smith: Real Artists Don’t Have Teeth” will be presented as a national première and marks the first step of a three-year multidisciplinary project. The performance blends sound, video, and staged action to explore marginality as a creative space and failure as a political gesture.
